Job Title: Technical Apparel Designer
Location: Eberlestock Headquarters
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8AM to 5 PM (flex based on business needs)
Reports To: Head of Design
Position Summary:
The Technical Apparel Designer is responsible for designing and developing high-performance apparel that meets Eberlestock's standards for quality, durability, functionality, and fit. This role partners closely with Product Management, Product Development, and manufacturing partners to transform product concepts into production-ready garments that perform in demanding outdoor environments.
The ideal candidate possesses a strong understanding of garment construction, technical fabrics, fit, and manufacturing processes, while maintaining a passion for creating innovative products that support hunters, military professionals, law enforcement, and outdoor enthusiasts.

Key Responsibilities:
Design and develop technical apparel from concept through production while ensuring products align with Eberlestock's brand standards and product strategy
Create and maintain detailed technical packages including garment specifications, construction details, bill of materials, measurement specifications, grading, and fit comments
Specify technical fabrics, trims, insulation, waterproof technologies, and garment components based on intended product performance
Develop apparel systems that balance comfort, durability, weather protection, mobility, weight, and packability
Design garments that integrate effectively with backpacks, load carriage systems, optics, and other technical equipment
Partner with Product Management to ensure product designs meet customer needs, target pricing, and overall product objectives
Lead garment fit sessions and document revisions to ensure consistent fit, comfort, and performance across all size ranges
Collaborate with domestic and overseas manufacturing partners to communicate design intent, troubleshoot production issues, and ensure quality standards are maintained
Coordinate prototype evaluations and incorporate feedback from field testing, athletes, ambassadors, and internal stakeholders into future product revisions
Monitor product quality throughout development and production while identifying opportunities for continuous improvement
Maintain project timelines and ensure deliverables are completed according to seasonal product development calendars
Stay informed of industry trends, emerging materials, manufacturing technologies, and competitor products to support continued product innovation
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Apparel Design, Fashion Design, Textile Engineering, Product Development, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
3+ years of experience in technical apparel design, product development, or apparel engineering
Strong knowledge of garment construction, pattern making, grading, fit development, and manufacturing processes
Experience creating technical packages using Adobe Illustrator or similar design software
Working knowledge of performance fabrics, waterproof technologies, insulation systems, and garment construction techniques
Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple development projects simultaneously
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams and international manufacturing partners
Strong attention to detail and commitment to product quality
Experience designing hunting, tactical, military, backpacking, mountaineering, or outdoor performance apparel
Familiarity with waterproof/breathable technologies, seam sealing, bonding, and advanced garment construction methods
Experience working directly with overseas manufacturing partners
Knowledge of camouflage systems, technical hunting apparel, and load carriage integration
Personal experience hunting, backpacking, mountaineering, or participating in other demanding outdoor pursuits
Ability to travel occasionally, both domestically and internationally, including visits to manufacturing partners, field testing events, and other business-related activities
